ADVES mainly targets 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students, and provides education to train their scientific way of thinking as well as to build fundamental knowledge across sub-fields of natural sciences. Our mission is (1) to educate students, such that they can play an active role on the global stage after graduation, and (2) to contribute to the enhancement of education in natural sciences. We offer lectures and practical courses, opportunities to experience research, symposiums, and seminars in the field of natural sciences.
Moreover, we develop educational materials, publish books, create brochures, establish educational facilities...etc. In addition to education in natural sciences, we are also focusing on career education. In 2014, we organized the ADVES career symposium for students in science majors, which led to the collaboration with the Division of Social Outreach in KOMEX. Since 2015, we have contributed to co-organize career education courses for 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students.
We, "Division of Advanced Education in Science (ADVES)," belong to the organization called, "Komaba Organization for Educational Excellence (KOMEX)," in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences/College of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo. KOMEX provides a series of education, varying from introductory education for 1st year undergraduate students to specialized education for graduate students, by overcoming the boundaries between Departments and Divisions.
